Classroom Behavior/Discipline
I believe in having high expectations of the children to follow classroom rules and to help them understand the reasons behind these rules. I want all of the children to have the opportunity to learn and for no student to keep another student from being able to learn.
I combine the nurtured heart approach as well as “123 Magic” to manage difficult behavior in the classroom.
Your child starts each day on the green smiley face. It is your child’s goal everyday to stay on green. If your child is not making good choices (following classroom rules) they will be asked to “reset”. If they continue to be “reset” they will be asked to move their name to the yellow face and to have a time-out to think about it at their seat. If they continue to make bad choices throughout the day the next consequence, when “resets” don’t work, will be to move their name to the red sad face and sent to the office and asked to phone their parents/guardians and explain to them why they are in the office. If their behavior continues to be disruptive after they come back from the office, they will be sent back down to the office with a written red and an "LSS" will be given.
A “Lunch school success (SS)” is available at any time of the day. A child can receive an “LSS” by his/her teacher or staff member in the building.
Your child will be automatically sent to the office with a written red resulting in an automatic LSS for inappropriate behavior such as biting, kicking, hitting, swearing etc… This is called a NON-NEGOTIABLE. You will be notified by phone and mail if this should occur. Note: An “LSS” was formerly known as a detention.
Lastly, for the first month of school, your child will bring home a record of their classroom behavior. This helps to keep you informed and allows you the opportunity to talk to them about their good/bad choices. If you would like me to continue this weekly record for the duration of the school year for your child, please send in a note requesting it.
